KS Senate Bill 98, recently passed, allows for 20-year sales tax exceptions for some data center companies and Monarch and NextEra have purchased property in Sedgwick County. However, there are no pending applications. Residents are encouraged to fill out a survey.

They opposed data centers on environmental, infrastructure, quality of life, and economic grounds. Proponents cited the economic benefits that, with proper planning, could arise.
