RECENT MEETING NOTES
-
Park Board met March 9 but lacked a quorum, delaying votes. Members honored late board member Tom Ewert, heard updates on tree giveaways, a pipeline repair at Swanson Park, capital projects, and Imagine ICT outreach. Next meeting will be moved to the Carl Brewer Community Center.
-
Lily Wu highlighted the city's achievements, infrastructure needs, aviation growth, and budget priorities while calling for unity and civic engagement. Videos from council members outlined goals including neighborhood growth, parks, trails, development, and transitional housing.
-
District 3 Advisory Board heard updates. Fire Chief Tammy Snow will retire this summer, and mold issues are prompting station repairs. A resident raised ADA accessibility concerns downtown. Councilmember Mike Hoheisel discussed the failed Wichita Sales Tax.
-
The Board heard reports on declining violent crime, a garage fire, and the retirement of the fire chief. WFD confirmed a new Station near Maize & Pawnee—the first in 17 years. The board also recommended approving a VFW fundraiser alcohol permit and new multi-family housing.
-
Council approved several infrastructure and public safety investments, including fire station construction and the purchase of an armored rescue vehicle for the police department. They also discussed whether to issue revenue bonds to support a new townhouse development.
-
A member of the Sustainability Integration Board, which advises city council on sustainability topics, expressed concern about a proposal to sunset the board. Andrew Crane spoke about mobility and accessibility issues affecting blind and disabled residents in Wichita.
-
A special meeting on the Country Acres RFP: Sampayo withdrew, leaving Large Construction and Patterson. Motions to accept proposals failed amid confusion over collaboration and PBV rules. The board voted 5–1 to restart. It will be reissued for 30 days with a revised structure.
-
The meeting mostly revolved around CON2025-000168, a case that was approved back in 2023. However, discrepancies in the site plan required the commission to revisit the matter after construction. Various future town halls are scheduled to address the topic of data centers.
