The board discussed a noise complaint about a garage freezer, an update on a four-plex controlled burn permit, and new signage for the Oaklawn Community Center. Plans for the late-March community clean-up and volunteer breakfast were confirmed. A brief executive session followed.

Board approves Clean-Up Day and Senior Center funding, renews equipment warranties, addresses sewer and facility repairs, sets employee evaluations, and responds to proposed water rate increases from the City of Wichita impacting the Oaklawn Sewer & Water District.

The board brought up the need for street lights, particularly at bus stops and along Clifton Avenue. The board are appreciative of efforts to clean up a ditch in the neighborhood. An idea regarding a memorial plaque celebrating past and present board members was also pitched.

The daughter of a board member asked whether the board could help finance their Derby High School band trip to Chicago. No decision was made. Board members plan to meet with the band teacher and explore ways to assist other students who may qualify for financial support.

The board is responsible for the district’s nuisance abatement program and informs residents about property conditions that pose risks to public health, safety, and welfare. The board also issues fines when appropriate. An October newsletter will contain more information.
